Job description

Job Description Summary We are seeking a motivated Power Electronics Engineer to join our team developing advanced medium-voltage variable speed drive (VSD) systems for industrial applications worldwide. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers while building expertise in power electronics, motor control, real-time simulation, and industrial drive systems. You will contribute to the development, testing, and commissioning of cutting-edge technologies used in marine propulsion, LNG liquefaction facilities, offshore platforms, compressors, rolling mills, and other critical industrial applications. Whether you are a recent graduate with relevant internship or project experience or an engineer with a few years of industry experience, this position provides a strong technical growth path in a highly specialized and impactful field.

What You'll Do
  • Support the design and sizing of electrical drive system components, including transformers, front ends, power bridges, and input/output filters.
  • Assist in the development and validation of motor control and power converter control algorithms.
  • Develop and maintain simulation models for power electronic systems, electric motors, and industrial drive applications.
  • Participate in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and real-time simulation activities to verify system performance.
  • Support software integration and testing activities in laboratory and production environments.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop control sequences based on application requirements and system constraints.
  • Analyze test results, investigate technical issues, and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Participate in system integration and performance validation activities.
  • Provide technical support during commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of installations at customer sites.
  • Travel occasionally to support field activities on marine vessels, offshore platforms, LNG facilities, and other industrial installations worldwide.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, Control Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in power electronics, electrical drives, motor control, industrial automation, or related engineering fields.
  • Strong understanding of electrical machines, transformers, and three-phase power systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of power electronic converters such as rectifiers and inverters.
  • Familiarity with control theory and motor control concepts.
  • Experience with engineering simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for commissioning and troubleshooting support.
Preferred Characteristics
  • Exposure to Variable Speed Drives (VSD/VFD) through coursework, projects, internships, or industry experience.
  • Familiarity with motor control techniques such as Field‐Oriented Control (FOC) or Vector Control.
  • Knowledge of PWM and modulation techniques.
  • Experience with embedded control systems or industrial automation.
  • Exposure to real‑time simulation, digital twins, or Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) testing.
  • Basic programming experience in C/C++, MATLAB, Python, or structured text.
  • Understanding of industrial applications such as marine, energy, oil & gas, mining, or manufacturing systems.
Why Join Us?

Learn from industry experts in medium-voltage drives and advanced power electronics. Work on technologies that power critical industrial infrastructure around the world. Gain hands‑on experience across controls, software, simulation, testing, and system integration. Participate in real‑world commissioning and troubleshooting activities at customer sites globally. Build expertise in emerging technologies such as electrification, digital twins, Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop testing, and advanced motor controls. Develop a broad technical skill set with a clear path toward technical leadership and specialized engineering roles. GE Vernova offers a great work environment, professional development, challenging careers, and competitive compensation.
