Job summary

LER TechForce is recruiting a Power Electronics Engineer to design, develop, and validate power electronics for electrified systems in Wayne County. The role involves PCBA work, cross-functional collaboration, and driving robust, scalable designs for global applications.

Ideal candidates have 5–6 years in high-voltage power electronics, hands-on hardware development, and strong problem-solving abilities, with a background in automotive or similar industries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience in high-voltage power electronics design, development and testing in automotive/on/off-highway contexts.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with power electronics hardware development including design and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test power electronics products for electrified systems (AC/DC chargers, DC/DC converters, inverters, EMI filters).
  • Perform PCBA circuit simulation, schematics, layout, and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Software/Controls, and Mechanical teams for product development.
  • Decompose system requirements to drive component-level design.
  • Develop modular, scalable architectures for LV/HV electrified systems.
  • Provide guidance and support, review designs for robustness, quality, and DFM/DFMA.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, develop, and test power electronics products for future electrified systems using state-of-the-art tools, including AC/DC chargers, DC/DC converters, inverters, EMI filters, bus bar specifications, and all related internal components
  • .Perform PCBA circuit simulation, schematics, layout, and design reviews
  • .Work collaboratively with the Systems, Software/Controls, and Mechanical teams to ensure successful product development
  • .Decompose system-level requirements to drive component-level design requirements
  • .Work on a modular and scalable architecture that can be applied across LV and HV electrified systems
  • .Responsible for the specification, design, development, testing, and validation of power electronics for global electrified applications, including bespoke designs, upgrade of existing designs, and applications engineering
  • .Utilize individual and group design, drawing, specification, and code reviews to demonstrate and drive the application of robust technical fundamentals to optimize system performance, quality, DFM/DFA, and cost
  • .Conduct root cause analysis and support troubleshooting in multiple formats (8D, etc.)
  • .Review existing components and system designs to determine adequacy for use in multiple applications or identify opportunities to improve existing designs for upgraded performance
  • .Develop creative and innovative ideas for complex system and component challenges
  • .Apply understanding of global industry standards and trends to provide the latest technology solutions
  • .Leverage extensive product development assets including team members, test labs, and expert product development capabilities to deliver best-in-class performance, usability, and quality
  • .Work collaboratively across the North American and Global Ricardo group for international clients
  • .Serve as a recognized expert and lead contributor
