Job summary

Insight Global in Center Square, PA seeks a Power Distribution Designer to work on aerial and underground distribution design projects. You will perform field surveying, notes, and sketches and collaborate with project teams to deliver cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or related experience and 2+ years of AutoCAD in distribution design, with NEC/NESC familiarity preferred. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters to deliver cost effective infrastructure solutions.
• Coordinate design/review of distribution projects, including BOMs, clearance requests, permits, and labor units.
• Perform field inspections and evaluations of electrical systems for outside plant design.
• Produce detailed design documentation including line layout/routing and distribution systems.
• Contribute to design modifications to improve quality and processes.
• Apply design standards to underground and aerial distribution, including primary service and maintenance design.

Job description

The Power Distribution Designer will work on electric utility aerial and underground distribution design projects and be responsible for field surveying, field notes and sketches. Project types will include design of aerial and underground electric network distribution lines. Will work under the supervision of a senior designer and/or engineer.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters to deliver the most cost effective and highest quality infrastructure solutions.
• Coordinate design/review of distribution projects for a utility, including preparation and review of bill of materials, clearance requests, permit applications, and equipment and labor units.
• Perform field inspections and evaluations of electrical systems for outside plant design.
• Produce detailed design documentation including utility design system, line layout/routing, overhead and underground distribution, and identification of conflicting utilities.
• Contributes to and implements design modifications to improve quality of projects and process improvements.
• Apply design standards to underground and aerial pole line, including: Pole Replacement, Primary Service, and Reliability/Maintenance Design.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelors degree, or equivalent related experience with the design of electrical distribution systems.
• 2 years of experience with AutoCAD in distribution design engineering environment.
• 2 years of experience in the Power Distribution industry.
• Familiarity with electrical standards including National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook required.
• Experience with Katapult or other pole loading software.
• Regional travel required, as needed for the job.
• Must have a current valid driver's license with a clean driving record for up to the past 5 years.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with PPL systems including INFOR and EFD production
• Prior experience with civil 3D

Compensation:

$28.00/hr to $35.00/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
