Job summary

Insight Global seeks a Power Distribution Designer to work on electric utility distribution design projects, including aerial and underground lines. You will assist with field surveying, notes, and sketches under supervision of a senior designer/engineer.

You will collaborate with project teams, review materials, permits, and work on documentation for line routing and distribution layouts. Travel regionally as needed; a current driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in electrical distribution systems.
• 2 years of AutoCAD experience in distribution design engineering.
• 2 years of experience in the Power Distribution industry.
• Familiarity with NEC/NESC preferred.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience with Katapult or other pole loading software.
• Must travel regionally as needed.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and drafters to deliver cost effective infrastructure solutions.
• Coordinate design/review of distribution projects, BOMs, permits, and labor units.
• Perform field inspections and evaluations of electrical systems for outside plant design.
• Produce detailed design documentation including line routing and distribution layouts.
• Contribute to design modifications to improve project quality and processes.
• Apply design standards to underground and aerial pole lines.

Job description

The Power Distribution Designer will work on electric utility aerial and underground distribution design projects and be responsible for field surveying, field notes and sketches. Project types will include design of aerial and underground electric network distribution lines. Will work under the supervision of a senior designer and/or engineer.

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters to deliver the most cost effective and highest quality infrastructure solutions.
• Coordinate design/review of distribution projects for a utility, including preparation and review of bill of materials, clearance requests, permit applications, and equipment and labor units.
• Perform field inspections and evaluations of electrical systems for outside plant design.
• Produce detailed design documentation including utility design system, line layout/routing, overhead and underground distribution, and identification of conflicting utilities.
• Contributes to and implements design modifications to improve quality of projects and process improvements.
• Apply design standards to underground and aerial pole line, including: Pole Replacement, Primary Service, and Reliability/Maintenance Design.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelors degree, or equivalent related experience with the design of electrical distribution systems.
• 2 years of experience with AutoCAD in distribution design engineering environment.
• 2 years of experience in the Power Distribution industry.
• Familiarity with electrical standards including National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook required.
• Experience with Katapult or other pole loading software.
• Regional travel required, as needed for the job.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for up to the past 5 years.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• PPL distribution design experience.
• Experience with PPL systems including INFOR and EFD production.
• Prior experience with civil 3D.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
