Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking a Software Engineer focused on Power BI development to design, build, and maintain scalable data models and interactive dashboards for the Central Data Engagement and Reporting team.

You will integrate with enterprise data sources, optimize performance, and collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to enable data-driven decisions across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years in software engineering, data engineering, or business intelligence development.
• Strong SQL skills; experience with DAX, Databricks, and APIs.
• Experience with Power BI Desktop, Service, and Report Builder.
• US work authorization; Markel does not sponsor visas.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Build data models with star schemas, relationships, and DAX measures.
• Load data from SQL databases, Databricks, APIs, and cloud warehouses.
• Write efficient SQL queries and stored procedures to support analytics.
• Collaborate with analysts, product managers, and stakeholders.
• Monitor data refresh, performance, and data accuracy issues.
• Contribute to BI development standards and best practices.
