Position Summary

The Powder Coater is responsible for applying powder coatings to metal components in accordance with specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role ensures surfaces are properly prepared, coating equipment is operated effectively, and finished products meet appearance, durability, and performance expectations.

This position is well suited to a detail-oriented manufacturing professional with strong technical aptitude and a commitment to precision. The Powder Coater works closely with production and quality teams to deliver consistent, high-quality finishes while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment, supporting Universal Fabricating’s commitment to excellence in manufacturing.

Key responsibilities
  • Thoroughly clean and prepare metal surfaces before coating to remove contaminants, such as dirt, grease, and rust.
  • Follow all principles and practices of powder coating applications.
  • Monitor and control the thickness of powder coat to meet specifications and ensure proper coverage.
  • Operate all coating equipment including guns, hoppers, and booth collection systems.
  • Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects.
  • Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections or by using viscometers.
  • Bake parts at appropriate temperatures within time limitations.
  • Knowledge of thermosetting resin coatings, wash, and pretreatments.
  • Ensure that all components are produced / coated efficiently and are consistent with company established goals for quality and customer order on-time performance.
  • Ensure quality standards and processes are used throughout the facility.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are being met to assure a safe work enviroment.
  • Maintain accurate records of coating processes, including batch numbers, material usage, and any issues encountered.
  • Load and unload parts or products onto fixtures.
  • Good knowledge of mechanics and repair of painting equipment.
  • Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Understanding of powder coating materials, application techniques, and safety standard.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality finish and adherence to specifications.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
