Job summary

Aviagen is seeking a Driver Assistant to support transportation and logistics by aiding drivers with loading, unloading, securing loads, and ensuring safe delivery procedures. The role emphasizes biosecurity, safety protocols, and coordination with farm personnel and drivers.

The position requires a valid license, the ability to operate transportation equipment, and flexibility to work various shifts and schedules as needed by transportation operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 21 years of age where required for assigned driving responsibilities.
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets company MVR requirements.
• Clean or acceptable MVR for previous five years per company requirements.
• Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles and transportation equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, safety procedures, and biosecurity protocols.
• Ability to complete required vehicle, transportation, and delivery documentation.
• Basic math skills for transportation and logistics responsibilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other employees.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong safety, dependability, and personal responsibility.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and variable schedules.

Responsibilities

• Assist drivers with daily transportation and logistics activities, including preparing vehicles and loads for scheduled routes.
• Assist with loading and unloading materials, equipment, supplies, and other cargo as required.
• Verify loads are properly positioned and secured before vehicle movement.
• Inspect trailers, cargo areas, loading equipment, and load-securing devices before departure.
• Assist with documentation for transportation, deliveries, pickups, vehicle inspections, and other activities.
• Maintain communication with drivers, supervisors, farm personnel, hatchery personnel, and others regarding schedules and issues.
• Follow procedures for entering and exiting farms, poultry facilities, hatcheries, and biosecure locations.
• Comply with biosecurity procedures to reduce cross-contamination between farms.
• Follow animal welfare procedures and safety protocols.
• Safely work around trucks, trailers, loading equipment, forklifts, and other moving gear.
• Wear PPE and follow all safety procedures.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Support other transportation and operational activities as needed.
• Perform other transportation, logistics, and operational duties.
