Job summary

Valiant Technologies LLC in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to design, implement, and optimize high-volume production databases. You will own backup strategies, upgrades, replication, HA/DR tooling (Repmgr, Pgpool, pgBackRest) and cloud deployments on AWS/GCP, with strong scripting and collaboration across teams.

• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture and internal components.
• Hands-on experience with logical and physical backup and restore strategies, including Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
• Proven experience in performing minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades.
• Extensive experience with database replication and high-availability solutions.
• Responsible for day-to-day database operations, monitoring, and performance troubleshooting (CPU/load, locks, blocking, long-running queries, etc.).
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration parameters, system catalogs, and performance views.
• Experience with routine database maintenance activities (vacuum, analyze, reindex, patching).
• Hands-on exposure to cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments on AWS (RDS/EC2) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong experience with HA/DR tools such as Repmgr, Pgpool, and pgBackRest.
• Solid hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes.
• Strong scripting skills in Shell and/or Python for automation and monitoring.
• Proven experience administering multi-terabyte, high-performance production databases.
• Ability to independently learn, adapt, and implement new technologies.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across business and technical teams.
• Experience in designing and supporting large-scale, mission-critical database infrastructure with high transaction volumes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain day-to-day database operations and monitoring.
• Troubleshoot performance issues including CPU, memory, locks, and long-running queries.
• Plan and implement backup, PITR, and recovery strategies.
• Perform PostgreSQL upgrades and version migrations.
• Design and maintain high-availability solutions and replication setups.
• Tune database configurations and perform routine maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with cloud and dev teams to optimize deployments on AWS or GCP.
• Automate operational tasks using Shell or Python scripts.
• Led design of large-scale, high-transaction databases and tooling.
