Job summary

Machine Learning Technologies, LLC is seeking a senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer to architect, deploy, and operate large-scale databases in Sunnyvale. You will manage backup strategies, PITR, upgrades, and high-availability with replication, RDS/EC2, and GCP.

Strong scripting in Shell or Python and solid collaboration with cross-functional teams are required. Ideal candidate will handle multi-terabyte production databases, optimize performance, and drive automation and reliability across

Qualifications

• Extensive production PostgreSQL experience with architecture and internals.
• Experience with full lifecycle backup strategies including PITR.
• Ability to perform minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades.
• Deep knowledge of replication and high-availability solutions.
• Day-to-day database operations, monitoring, and performance troubleshooting (CPU, locks, long queries).
• Strong knowledge of configuration parameters, system catalogs, and performance views.
• Routine maintenance practices (vacuum, analyze, reindex, patching).
• Experience with cloud deployments on AWS (RDS/EC2) and/or GCP.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor PostgreSQL databases in production to ensure high availability and performance.
• Implement and maintain backup/restore strategies, including PITR and disaster recovery planning.
• Perform upgrades (minor and major) to PostgreSQL versions as required.
• Manage replication setups and HA tools to ensure data integrity and uptime.
• Tune configurations, monitor performance, and troubleshoot issues across platforms and environments.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on deployment and capacity planning.

Job Description:

• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture and internal components.
• Hands-on experience with logical and physical backup and restore strategies, including Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
• Proven experience in performing minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades.
• Extensive experience with database replication and high-availability solutions.
• Responsible for day-to-day database operations, monitoring, and performance troubleshooting (CPU/load, locks, blocking, long-running queries, etc..).
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration parameters, system catalogs, and performance views.
• Experience with routine database maintenance activities (vacuum, analyze, reindex, patching).
• Hands-on exposure to cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments on AWS (RDS/EC2) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong experience with HA/DR tools such as Repmgr, Pgpool, and pgBackRest.
• Solid hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes.
• Strong scripting skills in Shell and/or Python for automation and monitoring.
• Proven experience administering multi-terabyte, high-performance production databases.
• Ability to independently learn, adapt, and implement new technologies.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across business and technical teams.
• Experience in designing and supporting large-scale, mission-critical database infrastructure with high transaction volumes.

Good to Have:

Exposure to Kubernetes platforms such as GKE or EKS.
