Job summary

Machine Learning Technologies, LLC is seeking a seasoned PostgreSQL Database Administrator to design, implement, and maintain multi-terabyte production databases. You will optimize performance, implement backup/restore with PITR, upgrade versions, and ensure high availability using Repmgr, Pgpool, and pgBackRest.

The role requires cloud deployments on AWS/GCP, containerization with Kubernetes, scripting in Shell or Python, and close collaboration with engineering and operations teams to support

Qualifications

• Deep PostgreSQL knowledge, architecture, and internal components.
• Experience with PITR, backup/restore strategies, and upgrades.
• Strong HA/DR implementation using Repmgr, Pgpool, pgBackRest.
• Proven performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting skills.
• Cloud deployments on AWS and/or GCP with managed and self-managed DBs.
• Container orchestration with Kubernetes and automation scripting.
• Ability to learn new technologies and collaborate across teams.
• Experience administering multi-terabyte production databases.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day PostgreSQL operations, monitoring, and tuning.
• Design and implement backup/restore strategies including PITR.
• Perform minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades.
• Ensure high availability with HA/DR tooling.
• Optimize queries, configurations, and system catalogs for performance.
• Maintain routine maintenance (vacuum, analyze, reindex, patching).
• Support cloud deployments on AWS/GCP (RDS/EC2, etc.).
• Automate tasks with Shell/Python and monitor systems.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations across teams.

Job Description:

• 1. Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture and internal components.
• 2. Hands-on experience with logical and physical backup and restore strategies, including Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
• 3. Proven experience in performing minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades.
• 4. Extensive experience with database replication and high-availability solutions.
• 5. Responsible for day-to-day database operations, monitoring, and performance troubleshooting (CPU/load, locks, blocking, long-running queries, etc..).
• 6. Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration parameters, system catalogs, and performance views.
• 7. Experience with routine database maintenance activities (vacuum, analyze, reindex, patching).
• 8. Hands-on exposure to cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments on AWS (RDS/EC2) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• 9. Strong experience with HA/DR tools such as Repmgr, Pgpool, and pgBackRest.
• 10. Solid hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes.
• 11. Strong scripting skills in Shell and/or Python for automation and monitoring.
• 12. Proven experience administering multi-terabyte, high-performance production databases.
• 13. Ability to independently learn, adapt, and implement new technologies.
• 14. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across business and technical teams.
• 15. Experience in designing and supporting large-scale, mission-critical database infrastructure with high transaction volumes.
