Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Scholar, Neuropsychiatry to join our Neuroscience Discovery group based in San Diego, CA, USA.
The successful candidate will lead efforts in conducting in vitro and ex vivo neuropharmacology studies to support Johnson & Johnson’s Neuropsychiatry Portfolio. The candidate will perform molecular and cellular biology experiments and use induced pluripotent stem cell-derived multicellular cultures, primary cell cultures, rodent tissues, and other disease-relevant preclinical models to study the dysregulation of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission as it relates to neuropsychiatric disorders. They will spend a majority of their time in the lab in these efforts, generating high quality results that will be essential in progressing our understanding of pathophysiology of selected neuropsychiatric disorders as well as progressing potential new drug candidate for their treatment.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Successfully designs and performs experiments, spending most of the time on lab work.
Accurately interpret complex datasets and effectively communicate results.
Integrates Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision-making.
Enters, reviews, and audits all information obtained in experiments to ensure that it is recorded and retained according to established procedures.

Required Qualifications:
PhD; Neuroscience
Required Years of Related Experience: 0-1
Strong background in Neuroscience required; background in Neuropsychiatry and/or Drug Discovery preferred
Proficiency with a variety of molecular biology techniques, in vitro/ex vivo imaging techniques (immunohistochemistry, fluorescent in situ hybridization...). Rodent central nervous system tissue extraction experience preferred.
Hands on experience in culturing and differentiating human iPSCs derived neurons.
Accurate interpretation of data and strong analytical skills.
Excellent planning and organizational skills. Creative and strategic thinking. Good communication, presentation, and scientific writing skills. Collaborative mindset, teamwork oriented.
Proactively create a purpose driven environment by aligning J&J’s Credo and Leadership imperatives
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Additional knowledge in statistical software such as GraphPad Prism is preferred.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $77,000 to $124,200.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
