Job description:Postdoctoral Researcher – FDSOI Devices for Neuromorphic Computing

Neuromorphic computing is emerging as a key technology for future energy-efficient artificial intelligence. At

, we develop innovative semiconductor devices and circuits based on fully depleted silicon-on-insulator (FDSOI) technology for next-generation AI hardware. This position focuses on the design, fabrication, characterization, and modeling of novel FDSOI devices for neuromorphic computing. You will demonstrate the feasibility and performance of innovative FDSOI device concepts and support their transfer into practical applications through close collaboration with a deep-tech startup. You will work in an internationally recognized research environment with access to state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities and collaborate with leading academic and industrial partners. Your research will help bridge the gap between fundamental device innovation and real-world neuromorphic computing systems.

Your Job

  • Design, fabricate, and characterize advanced FDSOI devices for neuromorphic computing applications
  • Develop and optimize semiconductor fabrication processes in a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment
  • Perform electrical characterization and analyze device performance
  • Support device simulation and optimization using TCAD tools
  • Demonstrate the proof-of-concept of novel FDSOI device technologies and support their transfer to a startup for further development and commercialization
  • Publish research results in high-impact journals and present findings at international conferences
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and industrial partners
  • Support proposal writing where appropriate

Your Profile

  • Completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field; a PhD is an advantage
  • Hands‑on experience in semiconductor device fabrication and cleanroom processing
  • Experience in electrical characterization and data analysis of semiconductor devices
  • Knowledge of TCAD simulation (e.g., Synopsys Sentaurus or Silvaco) is an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to work effectively in an international research environment (at least B2 level according to the CEFR

)

  • Experience with CMOS technologies or neuromorphic devices
  • Experience in scientific publishing and presenting research at international conferences
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Our Benefits for You

We work on highly topical, socially relevant issues and offer you the opportunity to actively shape the future of energy-efficient artificial intelligence. As part of an internationally recognized research team, you will have access to state-of-the-art nanofabrication and characterization facilities and the unique opportunity to translate cutting‑edge semiconductor research into practical neuromorphic computing technologies through collaboration with an innovative deep‑tech startup.

You can expect a wide range of opportunities:

  • Meaningful tasks: The position offers a varied and diverse role in an international research environment at the interface of fundamental semiconductor research and technology transfer
  • Work-life balance: Optimal conditions for balancing work and private life, as well as a family‑friendly company policy. The option of flexible working (in terms of location) is generally available after consultation and in line with upcoming tasks and (on‑site) appointments
  • Vacation: You will receive 30 days of vacation plus additional days off (e.g. between Christmas and New Year's)
  • Flexibility: Flexible working time models, including options close to full‑time
