Job description

Overview

Posting Summary: A postdoctoral research associate is sought to join a dynamic research team on a project involving field-based and laboratory-based experiments. The research focuses on managing trade-offs among traditional users (fisheries) and new users (offshore wind, aquaculture) in offshore coastal oceans, under climate-driven changes in marine habitats. The position is based at the Haskin Shellfish Research Lab (Port Norris, NJ) at Rutgers University and includes travel to meet project collaborators and advisory groups from management and fishing communities. Funding is in place for 12 months, with possible extension subject to funding.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate meetings with industry and management collaborators.
  • Collect and analyze relevant data related to fisheries, offshore wind, and aquaculture interactions.
  • Write reports and manuscripts detailing results; contribute to grant writing and presentations at science conferences.
  • Contribute to practical solutions for coexistence of offshore wind and sustainable domestic seafood production in federally managed waters.
  • Support opportunities for undergraduate mentorship and collaboration within a highly interdisciplinary team.
  • Possibly conduct time at sea on commercial vessels as part of research activities.
Qualifications
  • Experience or interest in shellfish aquaculture.
  • A strong background in data analysis.
  • Interest or experience in marine policy.
Additional Information

The program is highly collaborative and multidisciplinary. The postdoc will be motivated to contribute to practical solutions for overlap among fisheries and offshore wind development and will engage with multiple fishery and management sectors.
