Job summary

Boise State University invites applications for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Geosciences. Research will focus on igneous or metamorphic petrology and geochemistry with a flexible start date, ideally January 4, 2027. The position is contracted for two years with potential extension based on performance. The successful candidate will work with Dr.

Matthew J. Kohn's group; a Ph.D. is required and US work eligibility is essential.

  • Requires eligibility to work in the United States at the appointment start and continue for the term.

  • Scientific writing demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Ability to acquire accurate, reproducible data.
  • Critical eye for reproducibility and scientific method.

Responsibilities

  • Assess chemical substitution mechanisms in minerals and write balanced chemical reactions among crystal-chemically valid mineral components.
  • Collect trace element chemical data on minerals in rocks.
  • Calibrate thermodynamically-valid thermometers and barometers.
  • Engage in outreach activities to local educational institutions.
  • Help develop teaching videos in thermodynamics and petrology.
  • Prepare manuscripts and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research results at national conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
