HIV-1 continues to be a major global health problem without a cure or vaccine in sight. Our laboratory studies fundamental aspects of HIV-1 replication, virus-host interactions and innate immune defenses with particular emphasis on the roles of viral and cellular RNA/DNA-binding proteins. To study these processes, we employ cutting-edge next-generation sequencing-based methodologies, tools of conventional molecular biology, biochemistry and molecular virology. Kutluay lab and WashU provide an enriching and rigorous training opportunity ensuring that trainees reach their diverse career goals.
