Job description

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Biomedical Engineering (Multiple Positions)

The Song lab at the University of Arizona is actively searching for Postdoctoral Research Associates to join our Neural Engineering and Regenerative Medicine team. Our laboratory develops advanced microphysiological platforms, 3D‑bioprinted constructs, and regenerative scaffolds that bridge the gap between cell biology and clinical translation. The work spans molecular and cellular assays, biomaterial design, organ‑on‑chip engineering, and translational validation.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent research on neural repair, tissue regeneration, and disease modeling with a focus on conductive biomaterials and microphysiological systems.
  • Develop and perform in‑vitro and in‑vivo models including human blood‑brain barrier‑on‑chip platforms for stroke modeling and neuromodulation strategies for spinal cord injury recovery.
  • Carry out analysis of research samples using advanced techniques and validate measurements.
  • Document, process, and analyze research data.
  • Disseminate research results through publications and presentations at recognized scientific journals and conferences.
  • Assist in grant writing and report preparation for funding sponsors.
  • Oversee graduate and undergraduate research assistants to conduct studies and maintain lab equipment and safety protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Willingness to learn new skills outside of current discipline to accomplish project goals.
  • Broad theoretical and practical knowledge within tissue engineering or cell biology.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong work ethic, communication skills, and team‑player orientation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline (conferred upon hire).
  • Strong scientific track record demonstrating well‑organized design and execution of studies.
  • Experience in biomaterials, cell culture, and molecular and cellular assays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with animal models.
  • Experience in cell biology.
  • Experience with histology and imaging.
  • Experience with microfabrication/MEMS.
Benefits

The University of Arizona offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, tuition reduction for employees and eligible family members, and access to university recreation and cultural activities.
