Job description

The Department of Translational Molecular Pathology seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Nima Mossamaparast. The laboratory studies DNA damage response networks and DNA repair pathways in cancer using biochemical, molecular, genomic, and translational approaches. The Postdoctoral Fellow will design and conduct independent research investigating mechanisms of genome maintenance and therapeutic response in cancer, perform and analyze high-throughput genomic and functional studies, and develop innovative experimental strategies. Additional responsibilities include publishing research findings, presenting at scientific conferences, assisting with grant and manuscript preparation, mentoring trainees, and participating in collaborative translational research initiatives aimed at identifying novel cancer vulnerabilities and therapeutic targets. All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Learn how to use a variety of biochemical, cell biological, and animal model systems to better understand the human genome and repair mechanisms used for repairs needed to maintain cell viability and prevent oncogenesis caused by endogenous and exogenous forms of damage.
• Investigate how human cells sense such damage and activate repair, and how/if processes are altered in specific disease states
• Understand how the cell promotes DNA repair in the context of chromatin, transcription, and different stages of the cell cycle, and the role RNA damage may have in cells.

Eligibility Requirements

An individual holding a recent (within three years) Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.) in an appropriate field who is seeking a temporary appointment, under the supervision of a faculty mentor, involving full-time laboratory-based research or scholarship in preparation for an academic or research career as an independent investigator. This appointment is not part of a clinical training program; individuals holding an M.D. degree or equivalent are not permitted to engage in patient care activity.

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000, depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
