Job description

The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Fellow is to work with a multidisciplinary research hematopathology team focused on pathology projects designed to improve our understanding of hematologic cancers. This position will provide routine technical and analytical support in the research lab, including direct research assistance for ongoing collaborative projects to ensure timely completion and successful achievement of proposed aims and deliverables. This position will provide skilled laboratory support, digital pathology support and animal and human subject research skills.

This appointment, under the supervision of Dr. Huamin Wang, involves full-time laboratory-based research ideal for those preparing for an academic or research career as an independent investigator. This appointment is temporary, not part of a clinical training program and is not permitted to engage in patient care activity.

All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Perform routine Mouse and Molecular Biology experiments to include:
  • Mouse crossing, genotyping and maintenance mouse database
  • Immunoprecipitation and Western blotting (from protein extraction to data analysis)
  • DNA & RNA extractions (from tissue samples and cell suspension)
  • PCR and qPCR: Sample preparation, amplification, and analysis
  • Cell culture techniques
  • Flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Tissue based studies: Immunohistochemistry
  • General Laboratory Maintenance & Supplies
  • Maintenance of general lab equipment
  • Prepares the lab for lab inspections
  • Prepares common laboratory stock chemicals; submits all orders for the lab and maintains supplies inventory
  • Monitors sufficient supply of liquid nitrogen to maintain the best temperature for frozen samples
  • Record Keeping
  • Record keeping of all lab work including experiments performed and database of samples received & processed in the ELN system
  • Other duties as assigned
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

An individual holding a recent (within three years) Ph.D. with major coursework in one of the basic sciences.

POSITION INFORMATION

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000, depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
