Job summary

The Evans Laboratory at the Salk Institute seeks a highly motivated junior postdoctoral fellow to join a program focused on differentiating human iPSCs into pancreatic beta cells and islet‑like organoids, evaluating their function and immune compatibility, and testing therapeutic potential in vitro and in preclinical models.

The candidate will develop protocols for progenitor and beta‑cell differentiation, characterize stem cell‑derived islet cells, and conduct islet transplantation studies,

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MD/PhD in stem cell biology, developmental biology, diabetes research, bioengineering or related field.
• Experience with human embryonic stem cells or iPSCs, pancreatic or beta-cell differentiation, 3D cell culture, or islet transplantation.
• Experience with genome editing, flow cytometry, single-cell analysis or mouse models of diabetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize protocols for pancreatic progenitor and beta-cell differentiation.
• Characterize stem cell–derived islet cells using molecular and functional assays.
• Perform islet transplantation studies and assess immune compatibility in preclinical models.
• Explore genome editing and development of immune‑evasive islet‑like organoids for cell replacement therapy.
