Position description

Position Description

We seek an experienced post-doctoral fellow to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology in the laboratory of Dr. S. Thomas Carmichael.

Dr. Carmichael's lab studies brain repair after stroke. These studies use animal models of disease to identify cellular and molecular processes that are triggered in the brain after stroke, and normally limit recovery. The methods used are in mouse stroke models, transcriptional profiling of cell gene expression, viral labeling and genetic manipulation of cell function, tissue staining and quantitative analysis and behavioral studies of mouse function. Salary Range is $66737-$80034

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation. This includes ability to work with the Principle Investigator (PI) to utilize mouse stroke models, and work closely with the PI and other lab personnel to complete the multidisciplinary tasks involved in each study. The post-doctoral fellow should also have experience with survival surgery in rodents, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology techniques (pPCR, mRNA expression studies, cloning genes).

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the following areas: animal modeling of CNS disease, immunohistochemistry, genetic manipulation with viral gene delivery, and data analysis.

Applicants must have experience with the use of qPCR, cloning and subcloning protocols, viral gene delivery, flow cytometry, immunohistochemical staining and statistics. Prior experience with preclinical models of stroke is preferred.

Additional Duties

* Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.* Ability to work independently on scientific projects* Required to communicate well with other scientists.* Candidate should have 5 years research experience in neuroscience in an academic setting or equivalent. * The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.
