Job description

Position Overview

Full‑time, non‑tenure Postdoctoral Associate positions in the Chipuk Laboratory within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. These positions focus on mechanistic studies of mitochondrial biology and regulated cell death.

Research Goals
  • Provide mechanistic insights into how mitochondrial composition and shape influence cellular metabolism and commitment to regulated cell death.
  • Explore how cancer‑promoting pathways converge on mitochondrial function to regulate malignancy and chemotherapeutic success.
  • Reveal novel contributions of the mitochondrial network to tissue homeostasis.
Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and execute research tasks independently, present findings regularly, and maintain project and time management. Analyze scientific data, write manuscripts for publication, and assist with grant proposals. Serve the FIU College of Medicine and the broader scientific community through committee membership and journal reviewing. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and mentoring capabilities and advocate for team science, workplace safety, and ethical conduct.

Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent).
  • Prior research experience and peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Proficiency in biochemical, biophysical, molecular, and cellular analyses related to mitochondrial biology and regulated cell death.
  • Experience with high‑resolution imaging, integrated '-omics' studies, or patient tissue evaluation is essential.
  • Motivation to perform biophysical characterizations and in‑vivo modeling is preferred.
