Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a PhD-level researcher to lead advanced acoustic design and modelling, conduct field signal acquisition, and contribute to high-impact papers. You will collaborate across disciplines in ESSD and deploy equipment in challenging environments.

The role requires hands-on experience with acoustic telemetry, data analysis, and machine learning, with field testing in forested or aquatic environments. Exceptional communication within a team is essential.

Qualifications

• PhD in Acoustic Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a technical field, received within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
• Research or applied experience in acoustics, including sound propagation theory/modeling and acoustic signal processing.

Responsibilities

• Advanced acoustic design and modelling.
• Signal acquisition in laboratory settings and field environments.
• Generation of intellectual property and publication of high-impact papers.
• Write and communicate results within a multidisciplinary development team.
