Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks candidates to lead environmental sensing projects within the ESSD and related groups. The role emphasizes hands‑on design of advanced sensors, field testing, and collaboration across disciplines to deliver impactful science and technology solutions.

The selected candidate will split time between laboratory work and field deployments, with at least 25% of hours in field operations during peak seasons, contributing to IP generation and high‑impact

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree completed or near completion within 24 months.
  • Experience with mechanical systems design and fabrication.
  • Experience in field experiments and rapid prototyping.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tasks in advanced sensor design, signal acquisition, data processing and algorithm development.
  • Design experiments and fabricate mechanical components and sensor housings.
  • Conduct laboratory and field experiments, gather and analyze data, publish findings and support funding proposals.
  • Dedicate a minimum of 25% of time to field operations, including spring and summer fieldwork.
