Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to develop on-machine monitoring and inspection tools for metal additive manufacturing. You will design new diagnostics, integrate them onto AM platforms, and analyze multimodal sensor data to corral real-time insights, accelerating adoption of metal AM in critical programs.

You will collaborate with Sandia scientists and external partners, publish results, and present at conferences as part of a dynamic Metal

Qualifications

• PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience with additive manufacturing technologies.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

• Integrate a new diagnostic tool with an existing AM machine.
• Develop correlations between machine diagnostic outputs and material properties.
• Analyze multimodal datasets to identify potential defects in AM parts in real time.
• Collaborate in diverse teams with other Sandia scientists and external partners.
• Share results through manuscripts, conferences, or stakeholder presentations.
