Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher in Materials Science/Ceramics to lead design, synthesis, microstructure characterization, and properties evaluation of high-temperature non-oxide ceramics. The role involves developing material-chemistry-process-microstructure-performance understanding and assessing performance for harsh reactor environments.

The candidate will collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team, apply advanced SEM/TEM/XRD techniques, and contribute to modeling

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related field completed by commencement of appointment.
  • Experience with ceramic materials and high-temperature non-oxide ceramics.
  • Strong publications in high-impact journals with microstructure characterization.
  • Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance; US citizenship required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, synthesis, and microstructure characterization of ceramics.
  • Perform advanced materials testing and properties evaluation.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Collaborate with INL researchers and external partners.
  • Contribute to modeling of microstructure evolution and degradation.
