Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher with Materials Science/Ceramics experience to lead design, synthesis, microstructure characterization, and properties evaluation of high-temperature non-oxide ceramics. The role focuses on processing optimization, phase transformations, and advanced testing in harsh environments.

You will work in the Advance Manufacturing Group with a 9x80 schedule at Idaho Falls.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.
  • PhD requirements completed by appointment and within 5 years of graduation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (US Citizenship).
  • Knowledge of ceramic materials, ceramic processing, sintering, and phase diagrams.
  • Experience with microstructure characterization and materials performance under extreme environments.
  • Publications in high-impact journals with microstructure focus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on research in ceramic materials processing, microstructure development, and properties evaluation.
  • Provide project management support for time-constrained studies.
  • Characterize data using SEM, TEM, XRD, and mechanical testing and interpret results.
  • Develop models for sintering behavior and microstructure formation.
  • Collaborate with INL researchers and external partners to advance material technologies.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Contribute to research proposals and project reports.
