Job summary

INL (Idaho National Laboratory) seeks postdoctoral researchers in the Hydrogen and Electrochemistry Department to perform laboratory experiments on solid oxide cells at elevated temperatures at the Idaho Falls facility.

The role emphasizes hands-on data collection, interpretation, and dissemination of results within a highly collaborative team. Applicants should have a PhD in a related field and proficiency with impedance spectroscopy, FTIR, Raman, or GC/MS, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, electrochemistry, chemistry, or related disciplines.
• PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years.
• Experience in high temperature electrochemical system operation, data collection and data interpretation.
• Experience using characterization methods including impedance spectroscopy, GC/MS, FTIR, temperature programmed experiment, Raman, and vibrational spectroscopy, etc.
• Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English

Responsibilities

• Hands-on laboratory data collection and interpretation; document preparation (reports, peer-reviewed journal articles).
• Preparation and presentation of results to internal and external communities.
• When appropriate, propose new research concepts and write proposals for new work.
