Job summary

UT-Battelle's Oak Ridge National Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate, Advanced Nuclear Reactor and Fuel Cycle Engineer within the RNFCA Group. You will work with SCALE, VERA, MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC, and MOOSE to model lattice physics, reactor cores, spent fuel, and fuel cycle scenarios.

Candidates must have recently completed a PhD in nuclear engineering or related field, with strong publications and programming skills in C/C++, Python, Fortran, Git, and CMake.

Qualifications

• PhD in nuclear engineering or related field completed within the past 5 years.
• Knowledge of nuclear reactor analysis R&D demonstrated through research/publications.
• Experience using SCALE, VERA, MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC, and/or MOOSE; familiarity with reactor systems and concepts.
• Programming/scripting experience including C/C++, Python, Fortran, Git, and CMake.
• Strong writing and communication skills with ability to publish.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, optimize and analyze reactor models using SCALE, VERA, OpenMC, MCNP, Serpent, MOOSE.
• Develop and analyze fuel cycle models using Cyclus to evaluate advanced strategies.
• Collaborate effectively within a team and with external partners.
• Communicate results through journal articles, presentations, and code documentation.
• Align work with ORNL values such as Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety and Service.
