UT-Battelle's Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a PhD-level nuclear engineer to design and analyze reactor models and fuel-cycle strategies using SCALE, VERA, MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC, and MOOSE. The role requires collaboration with scientists and engineers and effective representation to sponsors.

The position emphasizes rigorous publication, safety, and integrity, with opportunities to mentor early career staff and contribute to national energy and security challenges at ORNL.

Qualifications

• PhD in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field.
• Knowledge of nuclear reactor analysis R&D demonstrated through publications.
• Experience using SCALE, VERA, MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC, and/or MOOSE; familiarity with reactor systems.
• Programming in C/C++, Python, Fortran, Git, and CMake is an asset.
• Demonstrated writing and communication skills and ability to publish.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, optimize and analyze reactor models using SCALE, VERA, OpenMC, MCNP, Serpent, MOOSE to support next generation reactors.
• Develop and analyze fuel cycle models using Cyclus to evaluate advanced strategies.
• Interact with staff scientists and engineers and represent ORNL to sponsors and the professional community.
• Conduct work on scope and budget; deliver results on time.
• Communicate work through journal articles, presentations, reports, and code documentation.
• Mentor early career staff and promote ORNL values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
