Job summary

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking a Manager I – Post-Pay & Retirement Reporting to lead the district’s post-payroll control, retirement reporting, deductions, and related compliance functions. You will supervise staff and ensure reconciliations, reporting, and remittance are accurate after payroll production.

This role collaborates with Payroll Operations, Benefits Administration, Accounting, and external retirement agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of professional-level experience in business or financial operations in a large urban district, payroll department, or similar.
• Experience with public retirement systems such as CalSTRS, CalPERS, and SFERS including reporting, corrections, audits, and reconciliation.
• Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of the Post-Pay & Retirement Reporting unit; supervise, train, coach, and evaluate assigned staff.
• Establish post-payroll calendars, control points, procedures, and reconciliations for multiple payroll cycles.
• Coordinate payroll-to-general-ledger reconciliation with Accounting and Finance; ensure accurate remittances.
• Oversee federal and California payroll tax reporting, including deposits and filings.
• Direct CalSTRS reporting and coordinate SFERS reporting and corrections; manage retirement information reporting.
• Monitor error reports and coordinate resolutions with various departments and agencies.
• Lead process improvements, system enhancements, and automation projects.
• Develop SOPs, reconciliation checklists, and training materials.
