Job summary

The Innocence Project seeks a Post-Conviction Litigation Fellow to reinvestigate and litigate actual innocence claims. The position is fully funded for two years and involves collaboration with attorneys across the Post-Conviction Litigation Department.

Fellows will engage in fact-finding, work with experts, and litigate in trial and appellate courts, with a hybrid in-office model and occasional travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school before start date (September 2027).
• Admitted to a state bar or eligible to sit for the next bar examination.
• Demonstrated interest in indigent defense, racial justice, and innocence work.
• Strong legal research and persuasive writing skills.
• Strong oral advocacy and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting litigation strategy for post-conviction cases.
• Assist in post-conviction factual reinvestigations.
• Write motions and briefs for client representation, including DNA testing requests and relief from conviction.
• Conduct legal research and cite to authorities.
• Communicate with clients and family members about cases.
• Prepare for and participate in evidentiary hearings.
