Job summary

Hope Lutheran Church in Westminster, California is seeking a senior, part-time pastor to passionately preach, educate, and connect the power of Jesus and God’s Word to today’s world. The role includes pastoral visitations and counseling, and outreach to grow the church.

The pastor will lead worship with music ministers, cast a vision for ministry, and oversee staff, budget, sacraments, weddings, and funerals, while mentoring others in Scripture-based teaching.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity degree required.
• LCMC certified pastor or Lutheran pastor preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of pastoral ministry experience.

Responsibilities

• Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with Biblical truth and discipleship.
• Lead worship services with worship/music leaders to be contextual and transformational.
• Cast and implement a vision for God’s ministry through Hope Lutheran Church in the community.
• Recruit, develop, equip, empower, and direct a team of ministers (staff, volunteers) to carry out this vision.
• Teach from Scripture and empower other leaders to teach accordingly.
• Advise Church Council on budget design that supports the vision while being fiscally responsible.
• With Church Council, hire, manage, evaluate, and dismiss staff as needed.
• Officiate over the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, weddings, and funerals.
• Provide pastoral counseling.

We are seeking a senior, part-time pastor who will passionately preach to inspire, educate and connect the power of Jesus and God’s Word to today’s world.

A faithful servant of God who provides comfort and care through visitations and counseling, and eager to expand the kingdom of God through outreach and evangelism to grow the church.

Ministry Responsibilities:

• Passionately proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a strong commitment to Biblical truth, Christian discipleship, Lutheran theological foundations, and relevant articulation of the message to today’s world.


• In conjunction with worship and music ministers/leaders, envision, design, develop, and lead worship services that are faithful, fruitful, meaningful, contextual, and transformational.


• Prayerfully cast, implement, and facilitate a vision for God’s ministry through Hope Lutheran Church in the community.


• Recruit, develop, equip, empower, and direct a team of ministers (staff, volunteer leaders, and congregation) to carry out this vision.


• Teach from the Scripture and Christian theology. Designate and empower other leaders to teach accordingly.


• In conjunction with Church Council, give recommendations and advice for the design of a budget for congregational approval that is fiscally responsible yet responsive to the vision that God is forming at Hope Lutheran Church.


• In conjunction with the Church Council, hire, manage, evaluate, and with just cause dismiss Hope Lutheran church staff employees.


• Officiate over the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion as well as weddings and funerals.


• Provide pastoral counseling
