Job summary

Jacksons-Food-Stores is seeking a POS Engineering Specialist to own the certification, testing, deployment, and lifecycle management of Verifone POS platforms and related retail tech across our stores. You will serve as a technical SME supporting payment ecosystems, forecourt technologies, and loyalty integrations from design through production.

This role collaborates with product owners, vendors, and IT teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, CS, IS, Engineering or related field preferred.
• 4+ years in retail tech, POS platforms, payments, or fuel tech environments.
• Experience with Verifone Commander and related retail payment tech.
• Experience with payment processing, EMV, and card network integrations.
• Familiar with DPR/SDLC/Agile and release management.
• Knowledge of fuel retail systems and forecourt tech.

Responsibilities

• Lead certification activities with major fuel brands and testing with vendors.
• Design and execute comprehensive testing strategies for releases and hardware.
• Manage ServiceNow projects, change requests, and release planning.
• Guide lab management and ensure production-aligned test environments.
• Support pilot deployments and production rollout of POS solutions.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineering and support staff.

Job description

The POS Engineering Specialist is responsible for the engineering, testing, certification, implementation, and lifecycle management of Jacksons' point-of-sale (POS) systems and associated retail technology platforms. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert supporting the company's retail payment ecosystem, fuel brand requirements, forecourt technologies, and integrated retail systems.

This position is critical in ensuring the successful certification, validation, deployment, and support of retail technology solutions across Jacksons store locations. This role works closely with product owners, fuel brands, vendors, support center teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners to deliver reliable, compliant, and scalable retail technology solutions.

The position is heavily focused on Verifone POS platforms, laboratory testing, fuel brand certifications, Digital Product Release (DPR) processes, ServiceNow-driven project execution, and full lifecycle testing from solution design through production deployment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

POSEngineeringandTechnicalLeadership

• Leadtechnicalevaluation,configuration,testing,andimplementationofretailtechnologysolutions.
• Supportthedevelopmentandmaintenanceofengineeringstandards,configurationbaselines,andimplementationprocedures.
• Evaluatenewretailtechnologycapabilitiesandproviderecommendationsforadoptionanddeployment.

FuelBrandCertification

• LeadcertificationactivitieswithmajorfuelbrandsincludingShell,Chevron,Phillips66,Sinclair,andotherbranded/unbrandedfuelpartners.
• Coordinatecertificationtestingwithvendors,processors,andfuelbrandrepresentatives.
• Validatecompliancerequirementsforloyaltyprograms,paymentprocessing,pricingpromotions,andbrand-specificfunctionality.
• Trackcertificationreadinessandensuretimelycompletionoffuelbrandapprovalrequirements.

Testing&QualityAssurance

• Designandexecutecomprehensivetestingstrategiesforsoftwarereleases,hardwareimplementations,andtechnologyupgrades.
• Developandmaintaintestplans,testcases,testingscripts,andvalidationprocedures.
• PerformUnitTesting,IntegrationTesting,RegressionTesting,UserAcceptanceTesting(UAT),andProductionValidationTesting.
• ValidateintegrationsbetweenPOSsystems,fueldispensers,paymentnetworks,loyaltyproviders,andthird-partyplatforms.
• Documenttestingoutcomesandcoordinatedefectresolutionefforts.

ServiceNow&ReleaseManagement

• UtilizeServiceNowtomanageprojectactivities,changerequests,releaserecords,defects,implementationplans,andtechnicaldocumentation.
• SupportJacksons'DigitalProductRelease(DPR)governanceprocesses.
• Participateinreleaseapprovals,deploymentplanning,riskassessments,andproductionreadinessreviews.
• Ensureallimplementationsadheretochangemanagementandtechnologygovernancestandards.

POSEngineeringLabManagement

• Configure,maintain,andenhancePOSEngineeringlabenvironments.
• ManagetestinghardwareincludingPOSterminals,paymentdevices,fuelcontrollers,dispensers,andintegratedretailtechnologies.
• Ensuretestingenvironmentsaccuratelyrepresentfieldproductionconfigurations.
• Maintaindocumentationoflabconfigurationsandtechnicalstandards.

Implementation&ProductionSupport

• LeadpilotdeploymentsandproductionrolloutsofPOSandretailtechnologysolutions.
• Supportimplementationactivities,includingafter-hoursmaintenanceandreleasewindowswhennecessary.
• PartnerwithSupportCenterteamstoensuresmoothoperationaltransitionsfollowingdeployments.
• Participateintroubleshootingandrootcauseanalysisactivitiesforcomplexretailtechnologyincidents.
• CollaboratewithinternalInformationTechnologyteamsandexternalvendors.
• Communicateprojectstatus,certificationprogress,risks,andtestingresultstostakeholders.
• Providetechnicalguidanceandmentorshiptojuniorengineeringandsupportpersonnel.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Education/Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems,Engineering, Business Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 4+ years of experience supporting retail technology, POS platforms, payment systems, or fuel retail technology environments.
• Knowledge of Verifone Commander, Ruby, Topaz, C18, or associated retail payment technologies.
• Experience supporting payment processing technologies, EMV systems, and card network integrations.
• Experience with Digital Product Release (DPR), SDLC, Agile, or release management processes.
• Familiarity with petroleum retail systems including:
  • Fuel Controllers
  • Dispenser Interfaces
  • Payment Networks
  • Loyalty Systems
  • Electronic Price Signs
  • Automatic Tank Gauges (ATG)
• Experience participating in large-scale store technology deployments.
• Working knowledge of fuel retail operations and forecourt technologies.
• Experience supporting fuel brand certification programs.
• Retail convenience store or fuel industry experience.
• Experience developing and executing structured testing strategies and validation plans.
• Experience utilizing ServiceNow for project management, change management, incident tracking, or release management.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence.
