Job summary

Center for Life Resources in Brownwood, Texas, is seeking a Competency Restoration Case Manager to join the Forensics department. The role focuses on restoring competency for individuals found incompetent to stand trial and coordinating treatment with mental health and criminal justice systems.

The position requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology or related field (QMHP), with at least 6 months in behavioral health preferred, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Understanding of mental illness, resources and criminal justice system.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties may vary based on specific program and position, and may include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in the restoration and treatment of individuals found incompetent to stand trial by local courts.
• Coordinate, link monitor and provide treatment to restore competency using training material provided by HHS.
• Oversee both the mental health treatment and forensic components of each individual’s case.
• Work closely with local courts to ensure requirements are met.
• Primary responsibilities include screening individuals for program eligibility, providing case management and linkage to mental health care, advocating within the criminal justice system regarding forensic needs, and facilitating program activities.
• Work may be conducted in both outpatient and jail-based settings.
• Requires frequent in-person contact with individuals, families, and service providers.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s or master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, social services or related field required to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)
• A minimum of 6 months experience in behavioral heal field is strongly desired.
• Knowledge of mental illness, intellectual disabilities, medications, resources and the criminal justice system is essential in performing a wide range of program activities.
• Professionalism in dealing with community officials and resources is a must.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

• Valid Driver’s License required.
