Job summary

Mercor is seeking experienced Portuguese Linguistic Experts to support a cutting-edge AI research project in partnership with a leading research lab. The role focuses on evaluating LLM performance in Portuguese tasks and curating high-quality linguistic data to improve model understanding and generation capabilities.

You will work with distributed teams to assess translations, refine content, and annotate linguistic features, contributing to ongoing model training and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese with excellent grammar and stylistics.
• Experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work in Portuguese.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in distributed, remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the quality and accuracy of LLM-generated Portuguese text across use cases (translation, summarization, dialogue, grammar correction).
• Edit, refine, or rewrite Portuguese content to meet linguistic and cultural standards.
• Annotate Portuguese text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features.
• Identify model errors and language gaps, and collaborate with AI researchers to improve LLM performance.

You're a strong fit if you have:

• Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese, with excellent command over grammar, syntax, and stylistics.
• Professional experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work in Portuguese.
• Strong understanding of linguistic nuances, regional variations, and context-appropriate usage.
• Interest in AI and LLM-driven language technologies (preferred but not required).
