Mercor is seeking experienced Japanese Linguistic Experts to join a cutting-edge AI research project in partnership with a leading research lab. The role focuses on evaluating how well a large language model performs in Japanese tasks and on curating high-quality Japanese linguistic data to train and improve the model's understanding.

You will evaluate, edit, and annotate Japanese content, ensuring linguistic accuracy and cultural relevance.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Japanese.
• Experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work in Japanese.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot subtle errors or unnatural phrasing.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the quality and accuracy of LLM-generated Japanese text across use cases (translation, summarization, dialogue, grammar).
• Edit, refine, or rewrite Japanese content to meet linguistic and cultural standards.
• Annotate Japanese text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features.
• Identify model errors and language gaps; collaborate with AI researchers to improve LLM performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the quality and accuracy of LLM-generated Japanese text across various use cases (e.g., translation, summarization, dialogue, grammar correction).
• Edit, refine, or rewrite Japanese content to meet linguistic and cultural standards.
• Annotate Japanese text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features.
• Identify model errors and language gaps, and collaborate with AI researchers to improve LLM performance.
• Provide detailed linguistic feedback and analysis to guide ongoing model training efforts.

You're a strong fit if you have:

• Native or near-native fluency in Japanese, with excellent command over grammar, syntax, and stylistics.
• Professional experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work in Japanese.
• Strong understanding of linguistic nuances, regional variations, and context-appropriate usage.
• Interest in AI and LLM-driven language technologies (preferred but not required).
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot subtle errors or unnatural phrasing.
• Clear communication skills and experience working in distributed, remote teams.
