Job summary

Mercor is seeking experienced English Linguistic Experts to support an AI research project in the United States. You will evaluate how an LLM performs on English-language tasks and curate high-quality English linguistic data to train the model’s understanding and generation.

You will edit and refine content to meet linguistic and cultural standards, annotate texts for linguistic features, and collaborate with AI researchers to improve model performance.

Qualifications

• Must be a native or near-native English speaker with strong grammar and stylistics.
• Experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation or NLP data work in English is required.
• Excellent eye for subtle errors and unnatural phrasing; ability to edit for clarity and consistency.

This role centers on evaluating how effectively a large language model (LLM) performs in English-language tasks and on curating high-quality English linguistic data to train and improve the model's understanding and generation capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the quality and accuracy of LLM-generated English text across various use cases (e.g., translation, summarization, dialogue, grammar correction).
• Edit, refine, or rewrite English content to meet linguistic and cultural standards.
• Annotate English text for grammatical, syntactic, and semantic features.
• Identify model errors and language gaps, and collaborate with AI researchers to improve LLM performance.
• Provide detailed linguistic feedback and analysis to guide ongoing model training efforts.

You're a strong fit if you have:

• Native or near-native fluency in English, with excellent command over grammar, syntax, and stylistics.
• Professional experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation, or NLP data work in English.
• Strong understanding of linguistic nuances, regional variations, and context-appropriate usage.
• Interest in AI and LLM-driven language technologies (preferred but not required).
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot subtle errors or unnatural phrasing.
• Clear communication skills and experience working in distributed, remote teams.
