Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Project/Program Manager to oversee complex quantum software initiatives in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment. You will coordinate schedules, budgets, and staffing with technical leads and stakeholders to ensure on-time delivery while maintaining customer satisfaction.

Ideal candidates will have 2+ years in PM roles for technical projects, experience with government-funded programs, and the ability to learn quantum software concepts quickly.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of project or program management experience involving design/transition of sensing, communications, computing, or networking solutions, systems, or products.
  • 1+ years of direct experience supporting US government-funded projects.
  • Direct experience with complex computational or software projects.
  • Experience with MS Project and Excel for schedules and tracking.
  • Experience with risk management.
  • Experience working with software development projects.
  • Ability to learn quantum software development details for cross-project coordination.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of complex projects into a cohesive program (purchases, subcontracts, cost, schedule, staffing, reporting, risks, communications).
  • Prepare schedules and budgets with technical leads, PIs, and key stakeholders.
  • Identify dependencies between software projects.
  • Assess subcontractor performance and coordinate resources across quantum computing projects.
  • Drive on-time delivery by influencing project teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Support proposal development and contract updates with technical volumes, work plans, SOWs, and risk plans.
  • Monitor scope, customer satisfaction, and contract changes.
  • Engage technical leaders to ensure objectives are planned and resourced.
  • Conduct risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to business forecasts and technology/product roadmaps.

Job description

  • Manage a portfolio of complex projects into a cohesive program, including purchases, subcontracts, cost, schedule, status, staffing, reporting, risks, and communication cadence
  • Prepare schedules and budgets with technical leads, principal investigators, and key stakeholders
  • Identify dependencies between software projects
  • Assess and manage subcontractor performance
  • Coordinate resources across quantum computing projects and portfolios
  • Indirectly manage, influence, and drive project team members to ensure on-time delivery of tasks, objectives, milestones, and deliverables
  • Support proposal development and contract updates by developing technical volumes, work plans, statements of work, project management plans, communication plans, quality assurance plans, risk management plans, and budgeting inputs
  • Monitor scope of work, maintain customer satisfaction, and manage contract changes
  • Engage technical leaders and personnel to ensure technical objectives are planned and resourced
  • Conduct risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies
  • Contribute to business forecasts and technology and product roadmaps
  • Manage cost, schedule, and deliverables while tracking milestone progress
  • Establish and communicate project schedules defining critical paths across cross-functional deliverables
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, with a focus in science, engineering, physics, or other related fields preferred
  • 2+ years of project and/or program management experience involving the design, development, or transition of sensing, communications, computing, or networking solutions, systems, or products
  • 1+ years of direct and hands-on experience supporting US government-funded projects is required
  • Direct and hands-on experience with complex and highly technical computational or software projects is required
  • Significant experience handling and creating advanced-level schedules, budgets, and tracking with MS Project and Excel (or other similar software) required
  • Experience with risk management required
  • Experience working with software development projects is required
  • Demonstrated ability to sufficiently learn the technical details of quantum software development to coordinate resources across projects
  • Professional-level verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and potentially internationally up to 10%
