The Portfolio Consulting Manager will lead a team of power systems consulting professionals delivering advanced technical solutions to electric utilities, regional transmission organizations, and energy asset owners. This leadership role combines people management, technical expertise, client relationship development, and commercial growth within the evolving energy and grid technology sector. You will drive consulting business expansion across power grid analysis, system dynamics, grid interconnection, and grid code compliance. Working closely with clients and cross‑functional stakeholders, you will oversee project delivery, develop compelling proposals, and ensure high standards of quality, budget, and schedule performance. You will also empower consultants through coaching, career development, and a culture of continuous learning and accountability. This fully remote opportunity offers the chance to shape innovative energy solutions and support the modernization, reliability, and sustainability of power grids across the United States.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and develop the consulting team: Manage, motivate, and grow a team of power systems consultants with varying levels of experience. Establish clear expectations, provide regular performance feedback, and support individual development plans and long‑term career progression.
  • Drive consulting business growth: Expand consulting services across power grid analysis and design, system dynamics and transients, system interconnection, and grid code compliance, identifying new opportunities and strengthening the organization’s position in the energy sector.
  • Build and maintain client relationships: Develop trusted relationships with electric utilities, Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), developers, and energy asset owners. Monitor client satisfaction, understand evolving technical needs, and identify opportunities for additional services and long‑term partnerships.
  • Lead proposal development: Oversee the preparation of technical and commercial proposals in response to requests for proposals and other client inquiries, ensuring solutions are competitive, technically sound, and aligned with client requirements.
  • Oversee project execution: Manage consulting engagements from planning through completion, monitoring scope, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and quality standards. Address risk proactively and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Provide technical direction: Guide consulting teams in delivering high‑quality power systems studies, including grid performance analysis, system stability, transient analysis, interconnection assessments, and compliance with applicable grid requirements.
  • Collaborate across business units: Coordinate with internal technical and commercial teams to deliver integrated solutions, strengthen customer engagement, and identify opportunities for broader collaboration.
  • Promote technical excellence and continuous learning: Encourage knowledge sharing, lessons learned, professional development, and innovation across the team, helping consultants strengthen their technical capabilities and consulting effectiveness.
  • Ensure industry and regulatory alignment: Support the delivery of consulting solutions that reflect applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards, regional planning criteria, and relevant RTO procedures and practices.
  • Balance technical and commercial priorities: Make informed decisions that align client expectations, technical requirements, resource allocation, project profitability, and business development objectives.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power and Energy Systems.
  • Professional experience: Demonstrated experience performing power systems analysis for electric utilities, Regional Transmission Organizations, developers, or comparable energy‑sector organizations.
  • People leadership: Proven experience leading, managing, and developing technical teams, including setting expectations, providing feedback, coaching employees, and supporting career growth.
  • Power systems analysis software: Required experience with PSS/E. Familiarity with additional grid analysis tools, such as TSAT, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld, or PSCAD, is highly desirable.
  • Technical expertise: Strong understanding of power system analysis, grid planning, system dynamics, transient studies, interconnection requirements, and grid code compliance.
