Job summary

Columbia University is seeking a Porter to maintain apartment buildings and grounds within the university community. Under general direction, the porter handles cleaning and basic upkeep across the building complex and exterior areas.

Responsibilities include cleaning elevators, stairwells, windows, floors, and landscaping tasks, snow removal, and light lifting. This regular 40-hour position offers daytime hours and a union-supported environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain buildings and grounds: elevators, stairways, corridors, windows, floors, laundry rooms.
• Trim trees and shrubs, mow lawn and perform landscaping.
• Sweep sidewalks and remove snow, applying salt as needed.
• Heavy lifting may be required.
