Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome guests while ensuring luggage accuracy.
  • Assist guests with luggage service.
  • Maintain the organized atmosphere of the lobby and valet area.
  • Handle guest requests for luggage/delivery services promptly.
  • Maintain the entrance, lobby, valet and parking areas.
  • Coordinate guest needs with other departments.
  • Communicate daily with Front Office Manager on priorities.
  • Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere in the lobby with the fireplace and local art.

Job description

Position Overview

At The Wildbirch Hotel, our PORTER/BELLMAN SERVICE TEAM serves as the welcoming face of our unique boutique property at the lobby/main entrance valet point. They are responsible for greeting guests, helping with check‑ins, providing luggage service to clients, and ensuring each guest enjoys an exceptional stay in Anchorage. The role requires handling guest inquiries, luggage service, and managing check‑in and check‑out support in an efficient, warm, and professional manner.

A valid work authorization for the USA is required. Please note that we do not provide any visa sponsoring for the listed role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcoming guests while ensuring all luagge for the the guest is accurate loaded/unloaded and brought to the clients car/room.
  • Assist guests in luggage service.
  • Share in-depth knowledge of the hotel, its amenities, room layouts, and the surrounding Anchorage area, including notable events and activities.
  • Handle guest requests for luggage/delivery services, aiming to resolve any issues promptly to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain the hotel entrance, lobby and valet point area and the parking area as a hub of guest interaction, keeping it organized and supplied.
  • Work with other departments to coordinate guest needs and special accommodations.
  • Communicate daily with the Front Office Manager to review guest services, priorities, and any additional tasks or special projects.
  • Contribute to the warm, inviting atmosphere by managing the lobby’s communal space, which features a fireplace, and local art.
Requirements
  • Previous porter service, hotel or customer service experience is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read and respond in English (additional languages are a plus).
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Enthusiastic, service-oriented, and with a passion for hospitality and Alaska’s vibrant culture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with web‑based tools.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical & Availability Requirements
  • This role requires standing for long periods and occasional lifting of light materials.
  • The hotel operates 24/7, and availability for shifts on weekends, holidays, and nights is expected.
