Job summary

Commonpoint is hiring a Porter/Maintenance at the Alley Pond Park Tennis & Athletic Center to keep the facility clean and functional. You will support daily operations under the Director of Operations and ensure safe, orderly conditions for players and staff.

This part-time role requires flexibility for evenings and weekends, with at least one year of porter/maintenance experience and full COVID-19 vaccination by start date.

Qualifications

• At least one year of professional porter/maintenance experience.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the hire date.
• CPR and First Aid certification are recommended.
• Experience with racquet sports or court booking is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize all facility surfaces including offices, bathrooms, tennis courts, turf field, and surrounding areas.
• Maintain the landscape and grounds.
• Handle garbage collection and transportation.
• Refill all bathroom supplies as needed.
• Operate the court sweeping vehicle.
• Dry off courts after rain to ensure playability.
• Assist the Director of Operations with upkeep tasks.
• Assist in the removal of snow.

ABOUT THE ROLE

To continue advancing the impact we have across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring a Porter/Maintenance situated within the Commonpoint Tennis & Athletic Center at Alley Pond Park. The facility provides tennis, turf, and related recreational programming and requires consistent upkeep to support safe, clean, and efficient daily operations. The individual hired as Porter/Maintenance will ensure the facility is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and functionality through attention to detail, while performing maintenance and operational support tasks throughout the site. This role reports directly to the Director of Operations.

Across the agency, our seasonal and part-time staff play a crucial role in driving our initiatives forward by supporting daily operations, program delivery, and organizational goals.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Agency Expectations

• Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, while following established processes and contributing to basic data collection, reporting, or documentation as required.
• Use agency resources responsibly by following established procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and/or supporting cost-effective operations.
• Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.
• Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public, and promptly report concerns or incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least one year of professional experience as a porter or maintenance staff member.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• All hires must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• CPR and First Aid certification are recommended.
• Experience with racquet sports or court booking is a plus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Commonpoint offers competitive base salaries benchmarked against comparable nonprofit organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Salaries are determined based on internal and external equity, as well as each position’s scope, qualifications, and organizational impact. We believe in compensating staff fairly and consistently, ensuring that all salary decisions align with our mission-driven commitment to equity and transparency.

To maintain fairness across the organization, salary offers are set according to established salary bands and are not subject to negotiation. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range to allow for growth based on performance, professional development, and tenure. Part-Time Rate: $18/hr

WORKING CONDITIONS & JOB DETAILS

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work takes place throughout an active tennis and athletic facility, including indoor and outdoor areas, offices, bathrooms, tennis courts, turf field, landscape, and surrounding grounds.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms.
• Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as necessary; occasional sitting may also be required.
• Must be capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects.
• Duties may include outdoor work in rain, snow, heat, and cold, including drying courts after rain and assisting with snow removal.
• Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required.

JOB DETAILS

Working schedule: Up to 19 hours per week while the Bubble is in place (October through April). During May through September, hours may be adjusted or reduced due to early facility closures at dusk.
