Job summary

Community Housing Innovations, Inc. is seeking a Porter to maintain cleanliness, appearance, and safety standards across our facilities in the Eastchester neighborhood of the Bronx, NY. The role supports front lobby and general maintenance tasks and requires reliability for overnight or daytime shifts.

Responsibilities include trash removal, sweeping and mopping, and assisting in safety initiatives. OSHAbloodborne pathogens training is required within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; some cleaning experience in residential or similar site is a plus.
• OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens and PPE training must be completed within 30 days of employment and maintained thereafter.
• Proficiency in English required; bilingual Spanish is a plus.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, walk distances, climb stairs (2–4 flights).

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness, appearance, and safety standards of the facility.
• Trash removal and front lobby support.
• Sweep, clean, and mop rooms and areas as needed.
• Follow all maintenance tasks assigned by supervisor and report hazards.
• Promote safety and inspect equipment prior to use.
• Ensure compliance with CHI Health and Safety Program and participate in annual safety trainings.

Job Summary

A Porter’s basic function usually involves maintaining cleanliness, appearance, and safety standards of facility.

Pay: $19.24 an hour- approx. $40,000 annually.

FLSA: Non-exempt. Eligible for overtime.

Schedule:12am-8am Tuesday- Saturday(Sunday and Monday off).

Schedule:8am-4pm Sunday - Thursday (Friday and Saturday off)

Location: Eastchester neighborhood Bronx, NY

Job-related Duties – Essential Functions

These duties are essential and specific to the successful implementation of this position.

Perform Basic Maintenance Tasks Each Workday Including

• Trash removal
• Front lobby and facility support
• Sweeping, cleaning and mopping rooms and areas as needed.
• Follow all maintenance tasks assigned by supervisor.
• Determine workplace hazards and exposures that could harm employees and by extension the environment and report it immediately.
• Ensure staff are practicing safe working techniques learned in trainings.
• Maintains Compliance with CHI’s Health and Safety Program.
• Promote Safety initiatives and inspect all equipment prior to use.
• Emergency Preparedness- attend yearly training on active shooter drills, de-escalation training, and ensure that all emergency supplies on site are present and accounted for.

Qualifications

What do I need to apply?

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred. Some experience (1+ years) cleaning and sanitizing a residential or similar site preferred.

Certificates

Required to obtain an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Online Training for Bloodborne Pathogens and Personal Protective Equipment Course within the first 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment.

• Communication: Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
• Reasoning Ability: make judgment calls, perform proper notifications, and make appropriate decisions.
• Physical: Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 50lbs), tour entire property, walk distances, and climb stairs (2-4 flights).
