Job summary

Newport Healthcare is looking for a Prep Cook/Porter to join the kitchen team. You will perform daily preparation tasks, ensure a steady supply of clean dishes, and support chefs in maintaining a safe, organized work area.

You’ll follow health guidelines and standard kitchen procedures during your shift. The role requires a few months of restaurant experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Three (3) months of restaurant experience preferred.
• High School diploma or equivilant.
• Valid Driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily prep list items including protein prep, vegetables, sauces and dressings.
• Keep area stocked, clean and organized, follow health and safety guidelines.
• Wash dishes, pots, pans and flatware to ensure clean dishes availability.
• Maintain a clean work area and help other cooks as directed by the chef.
• Follow storage and rotation procedures and assist with receiving orders.
• Assist with keeping kitchen, floors, walk‑in fridges and freezers clean.
• Attend required meetings and ensure kitchen adheres to culinary standards.
• Assist chef with storing proteins, vegetables and grocery items appropriately.

What You'll Do

The Prep Cook/Porter is responsible to complete all items on the daily preparation list, including, but not limited to, protein prep, vegetables, sauces and dressing and other food items, keeping the area stocked with items throughout the shift, cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining equipment, utensils, and tools. This position will ensure the availability of clean dishes by washing dishes, pots, pans, and flatware, maintain a clean work area while following health and safety guidelines, following directions of the chef and use the guidance of the other cooks in the kitchen.

• Follow proper storage and rotation procedures.
• Assist with keeping the kitchen, floors, walk-in refrigerators, and freezers clean and organized.
• Assist with washing large pots, sheet trays, and hotel pans.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Ensure the kitchen adheres to State Health and Hygiene Requirements as well as Newport Healthcare culinary standards.
• Assist chef with receiving daily orders, storing of proteins, vegetables, and grocery items appropriately.
