Job summary

City of Hampton invites applications for a seasonal lifeguard position to keep community pools safe this summer, in Hampton, Virginia. No prior experience is required, but candidates must hold a current lifeguard certification from a nationally recognized organization.

Training in prevention of disease transmission and oxygen administration should be completed within 30 days of employment. The role is safety sensitive and may involve background checks and drug testing; shifts include weekends

Qualifications

• No prior experience required.
• Must possess a current Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA).
• Successful completion of Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and subject to drug/alcohol testing per City policy.
• Must pass a background check (18+).

Minimum Requirements

• No prior experience is required.
• Must possess a currentLifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization, i. e. American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA of USA, or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).

Additional Requirements

• Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
• Must possess good eyesight and hearing.
• Requires shift work to include weekends and holidays.
• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
