Job summary

City of Hampton is seeking a Pool Lifeguard to ensure safety and enjoyment of pool patrons. The role monitors swimming areas, enforces safety regulations, responds to emergencies, and maintains a clean, welcoming environment. Training and certification must be current, with background checks for applicants 18+.

The position requires effective communication and the ability to work weekends/holidays. Successful candidates will join the City of Hampton Aquaplex team, adhering to city safety

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguard Certification from a national org (ARC/ Ellis & Associates/ YMCA) or equivalent.
• No prior lifeguard experience required.
• Completion of Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to alcohol and controlled substances testing per city policy.
• Background check required for applicants 18+.

Job description

Join our team as a Pool Lifeguard and help ensure the safety and enjoyment of pool patrons at City of Hampton Aquaplex. This position plays a vital role in public safety by monitoring swimming areas, enforcing safety regulations, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

The purpose of the class is to perform lifeguard duties in the interest of public safety at pool facilities and elsewhere. This class works according to set procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• No prior experience is required.
• Must possess a currentLifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization, i.e. American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA of USA, or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).

Additional Requirements

• Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
• Must possess good eyesight and hearing.
• Requires shift work to include weekends and holidays.
• The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
