Position Overview

Project Management Programs in the School of Professional Studies at the University of Kansas Lawrence Campus invite qualified scholars and professionals with experience in project management to submit applications that will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool for consideration for part-time Instructor positions. An Instructor teaches an undergraduate or a graduate level course either in-person or online and must possess an advanced terminal degree. Instructors report to the Director of the Project Management Programs.

Instructors are instructional members of the faculty and are not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. Instructors are placed in single term appointments, with renewal based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, United Academics of KU, AAUP, or AFT. UAKU is the exclusive representative. Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Job Description
100% Instruction Duties
  • (40%) Plans, prepares and presents lectures for one undergraduate or graduate course in project management based on an approved course syllabus. Depending on the program, course and semester, instruction may in-person, primarily on the Lawrence Campus, or online. Courses are either eight or sixteen weeks in length.
  • (40%) Develops assignment, projects and exams. Supervises projects, evaluates student work and provides feedback to students. Maintains office hours as necessary to meet students' needs. In-person courses are live streamed and recorded to support remote students.
  • (20%) Maintains technologies, including a learning management system and a classroom lecture recording system.
Required Qualifications
  1. Earned master's degree in project management or a master's degree in a closely related discipline.
  2. Minimum of five years of professional experience.
  3. Two years of supervisory experience.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
