Location: Duke Raleigh Hospital, A Campus of Duke University Hospital

Shifts:

Three (3) 12-hour night shifts or any combination of shifts.

General Summary

Provide clinical assessment, physiological monitoring, and testing to assist with diagnosis, management, and prevention of sleep-related disorders using various diagnostic and therapeutic tools, including polysomnography, scoring of clinical events, and device titrations, providing care to patients of all ages.

Duties and Responsibilities
Level 1
  • Verify medical orders and protocols.
  • Explain procedures and orient patients.
  • Prepare and calibrate testing equipment.
  • Perform routine PAP mask fitting.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to standards.
  • Assist with "lights out" procedures and establish baseline values.
  • Assist and observe data acquisition, document observations.
  • Assist with interventions for patient safety and therapy.
  • Assist with "lights on" procedures to verify data integrity.
  • Monitor data quality and identify signal abnormalities.
  • Provide age-specific care for adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Level 2
  • Perform all Level 1 duties.
  • Review patient history, medications, and study protocols.
  • Prepare, calibrate, and adjust equipment independently.
  • Perform routine and split-night polysomnography independently.
  • Implement interventions for patient safety and therapy.
  • Verify data integrity post-study.
Level 3
  • Perform all duties of Levels 1 and 2.
  • Assess patient information to tailor testing procedures.
  • Explain procedures to patients.
  • Perform complex PAP fittings and data acquisition.
  • Oversee difficult procedures and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Develop standards and protocols.
  • Manage workload, generate requisitions, and process charges.
Qualifications
Education

Level I: High school diploma or GED, or current enrollment in a related program.

Level 2 & 3: Associate’s Degree preferred; completion of a polysomnography program required or preferred.

Experience

Level 1: No experience or 6 months patient care experience.

Level 2: 18 months polysomnography experience preferred or proficiency in required competencies.

Level 3: 4 years polysomnography experience required.

Licensure and Certification

Level 1: RPSGT or CRT/RRT license and BLS certification required.

Levels 2 & 3: RPSGT or CRT/RRT with sleep disorder certification and BLS required.
