Overview

The Sleep Laboratory encompasses all technical functions within the Sleep Disorders Center. It serves as the diagnostic area of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, evaluating patients suspected of having sleep disorders.

Under the medical direction of a physician and the direct supervision of the lead technologist, a Polysomnographic Technologist prepares patients for all-night polysomnographic recordings, multiple sleep latency tests, and maintenance of wakefulness tests. The technologist performs a variety of diagnostic procedures on patients with suspected sleep disorders, responsible for patient preparation and collecting information relevant to test interpretation, either in the sleep disorders lab or at the bedside.

Minimum Education Required

High School Graduate or Equivalent

Required Qualifications

An associate's degree from an accredited educational program is preferred. Certification in sleep technology through the BRPT, AASM, or RRT programs is required. Certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
