Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health in College Station, TX, is seeking a part-time Sleep Tech to join the Sleep Laboratory. This night shift (12-hour shifts) requires attention to patient care and accurate polysomnography studies.

The Sleep Tech coordinates daily operations, scores studies, educates patients, maintains equipment, and collaborates with physicians. Eligible candidates typically have an associate degree or related experience, BLS, and Polysomnography tech credentials.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree or 2 years of work experience above minimum qualification.
• Experience: 3 years of experience in sleep technology or related field.
• Certification/License: Basic Life Support (BLS); Polysomnography Tech (POLYTECH).

Responsibilities

• Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting and conducts titrations.
• Scores studies and documents events for physician interpretation.
• Communicates results to patients, physicians and families; educates on sleep disorders and treatments.
• Maintains and calibrates sleep lab equipment; coordinates with staff and director on quality improvements.

Job Summary

The Polysomnography Technologist 3 coordinates the Sleep Laboratory's daily operations. They monitor Sleep Lab quality, policies, procedures, staff, and equipment performance. They communicate and educate patients and families about sleep disorders and treatments. They consult with referring physicians about patient results.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting, including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations.
• Scores studies and formulates reports for physician interpretation. Documents all pertinent patient events according to department policy.
• Communicates instructions, results and relative information to patients, physicians and family members.
• Calibrates and performs routine maintenance on equipment. Troubleshoots and contacts manufacturers for repairs as needed. Notifies proper personnel for equipment problems. Cleans all equipment to ensure infection control.
• Consults regularly with the Medical Director regarding patient studies.
• Maintains standards for completeness of Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Control measurements.
• Orients and trains new Sleep Lab employees.
• Establishes and implements performance improvements including education and staff development.
• Communicates concerns and/or problems with possible solutions to the Department Manager or Director.
• Maintains a current and complete Policy and Procedure Manual.

Key Success Factors

• Advanced knowledge of Polysomnographic Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.
• Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
• Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
• Must have critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
• Able to proportion multiple demands and respond to time constraints.
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot audio and video equipment.
• Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning and email.
